2015 Foxtrot Vineyard Pinot NoirWinemaker’s notes | Gustav Allander Viticulture: Careful management of the vineyard during the hot 2015 vintage produced richly flavoured fruit with beautiful colour and varietal character. The fruit was hand harvested September 19th, the earliest harvest ever at Foxtrot Vineyards. The soils in the vineyard transition from gravely soils in the upper blocks to silty loam, sand and clay soils in the lower blocks contributing to the resulting complexity produced by the 21 year old self rooted vines. Winemaking: At the winery the fruit was separated into various lots, 33% whole cluster, and cold macerated for 5 days. After cold maceration the fermentation vats were warmed and fermented using native yeasts. Manual punch downs were performed over a 14 day period. At the completion of fermentation the juice was transferred into 50% new and 50% second and third fill French oak barrels, where it underwent full malolactic fermentation and was aged for a period of 20 months. Prior to bottling the wine was racked and went unfiltered into bottle. Tasting Notes: The 2015 Pinot Noir shows great balance with intense aromas of bright and dark red fruits along with spice and earthy notes. The intensity of the fruit and earthiness continues on the palate and is wonderfully framed by the vibrant acidity, savory notes, and bold silky smooth tannins producing a long lingering finish. Our 2015 Foxtrot Vineyard Pinot Noir can easily be aged for up to 10+ years but can also be consumed in the near term with decanting. Technical data: Acid/pH: 6.32 / 3.57 |
